Our ceramics are honored to be featured in ERT’s popular series, “Beach”, highlighting authentic Cretan handmade art and contributing to the creation of a vivid setting that takes the audience on a journey to the 1960s. Our selection of ceramics from the production of the series it is not just a recognition of their quality and aesthetics, but also an opportunity to show our work to the general public through television.
The Art of Ceramics on the Small Screen
“The Beach” is a series with a special emphasis on details, both in the narration and in the depiction of the era. Our ceramics were included in the set of the series because of their authenticity, which is directly linked to the Cretan tradition. The designs, colors, and also their manufacturing technique reflect a sense of timelessness and at the same time nostalgia, which fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the series.
Made in our workshop using traditional techniques and materials, these ceramics bring with them the history and heritage of Crete. Their production process – from the selection of the soil to the firing in a wood-fired oven – ensures the uniqueness of each item. It is this handcrafted quality that makes them ideal to frame a cultural work such as “The Beach”.
Importance of Participation
The presence of our ceramics in the series enhances the visibility of local Cretan art not only to the Greek public but also internationally, through the dissemination of the series. Each ceramic object displayed at the “Beach” conveys a story: the story of the land that gave birth to it, the people who created it and the tradition that has been preserved unchanged over time.
This partnership fills us with pride as it represents a recognition of our work. The production of the series chose our ceramics to incorporate into its plot and setting a dose of authenticity that comes from the very tradition of the place. In addition, through television exposure, the handmade ceramic art of Crete gains a new platform, making it accessible to people who may not have previously had contact with it.
The Relationship of Art with Culture
Ceramic art is inextricably linked to the culture and everyday life of Crete. Ceramic objects, from antiquity to the present day, were not only utilitarian but also decorative, while they were often a sign of social and cultural identity. In the “Beach” series, the use of our ceramics underlines exactly this role, presenting the deep-rooted tradition of our place in a way that highlights its cultural value.
Our collaboration with “Paralia” is a reminder that art is not only a thing of the past, but continues to be a living part of our culture. Our ceramics bring to the fore the timeless values of authenticity, tradition and artistry, which continue to inspire and move.
Closing
Our participation in the “Beach” series is a unique opportunity to connect the art of our ceramics with modern culture. We are extremely grateful for the recognition of our work and the opportunity to see our works framed by such a thoughtful television production. Through this collaboration, our ceramics not only highlight the Cretan cultural tradition, but are also an example of how art can bridge the past with the present.
