Minoan Pottery Innovates
Minoan Pottery has introduced a pioneering project that uses nanotechnology to produce high-quality ceramics. This innovative approach has boosted productivity and promoted the company’s products through online marketing.
The project has been recognised as a best practice and is featured in the European Network for Rural Development (ENRD) database. In addition, the company and its project have been featured in the National Rural Network (NRN) newsletter.
The main axis of our strategy remains the production of high-quality local products, incorporating advanced technology and utilizing local raw materials.
The project focuses on the production of high-quality ceramics using nanotechnology, in the Thrapsano area of Heraklion, Crete. Our company, active in the ceramics sector since 2006, received funding from the Leader + programme. The project objective was to:
- Develop a common strategy among Heraklion potters to promote local ceramics,
- Expand production through modern technology,
- Reduce costs and
- Better serve customer needs.
The investment included the acquisition of innovative equipment for all production phases, from manufacturing and firing to waterproofing of ceramics.
This investment brought us significant financial benefits and improved the production process, while strengthening our reputation and image as a company. The new equipment, with the integration of nanotechnology, significantly increased our production capacity, simplified processes and contributed to saving time during the manufacture of ceramics.

Through these exhibitions, we strengthen our networking, stay informed about the latest developments in the industry and present our technological and environmental innovations.
